If you should find the perfect church
\nWithout one fault or smear,
\nFor goodness sake! Don’t join that church;
\nYou’d spoil the atmosphere.<\/p>\n
If you should find the perfect church
\nWhere all anxieties cease
\nThen pass it by, lest joining it
\nYou’d mar the masterpiece.<\/p>\n
If you should find the perfect church
\nThen don’t you ever dare,
\nTo tread upon such holy ground;
\nYou’d be a misfit there.<\/p>\n
But since no perfect church exists
\nMade of imperfect men,
\nThen let’s cease looking for that church
\nAnd love the church we’re in.<\/p>\n
Of course, it’s not a perfect church,
\nThat’s simple to discern
\nBut you and I and all of us
\nCould cause the tide to turn.<\/p>\n
What fools we are to flee our post
\nIn that unfruitful search
\nTo find at last where problems loom
\nGod proudly builds His church.<\/p>\n
So let’s keep working in our church
\nUntil the resurrection.
\nAnd then we each will join that Church
\nWithout an imperfection.<\/p>\n
